Leaving a pressure washer pump running in bypass for extended periods of time (even five minutes!) can cause high temperatures within the pump head, resulting in broken or cracked ceramic piston sleeves. Replacement is recommended if any damage to the plunger sleeve is apparent, such as a hairline crack, or shattered ceramic sleeve. This type of damage, if left unattended, can cause detrimental damage to other pressure washer components, such as
Hotsy water seals, the brass pump head (pump manifold), pressure regulating unloader valve, trigger gun, nozzles, hoses, and other pressure washer parts.
